History and Creation:
Riverwalk Park is a 2-acre piece of land behind the BI-LO store on Hwy 9 that was developed between 2000 and 2006. The construction and planning was a combined effort with the Town of Black Mountain, Riverlink, Warren Wilson College and volunteers. The 1/3 acre dog park was completed in 2006 by Warren Wilson College volunteers. There was tree and shrub planting days with the Urban Forestry Committee and the Beautification Committee. Riverlink contracted Landmark Landscapes in 2003 to do the construction of bioretention ponds, move the greenway and create additional walking trails. In 2004 signage was developed by Dottie Shuman’s Environmental Interpretation class for the educational kiosk at the park which was funded by Riverlink. The Riverwalk Trail is approximately ½ mile.
